About The Role

1 x Contracts Officer Grade PO2 (12-months fixed term)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and skilled individual to the Quality Contracts and Brokerage team within our Strategic Commissioning and Investment Department as Contracts Officers.

The Contracts team oversees quality and compliance across a wide range of service areas including Older Adults (residential / nursing and domiciliary care), Mental Health Services, Learning Disabilities and Supported Accommodation as well as preventative services and day services. Many of our services are designed to help people retain or regain skills and confidence, so that further needs can be prevented wherever possible.

The post will involve working with a wide range of commissioned providers and will also involve working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders from the Council, health services, third sector providers and people who use services. You will also support the design and delivery of services by working collaboratively with people who use services, ensuring that required standards are met and that services are delivering the best possible outcomes for people accessing them.

We are a dynamic team and opportunities will exist to be involved in projects to shape the work of the team and develop your skills around commissioned services. We continually review our processes as challenges arise and legislation changes around us.

We have to adapt very quickly to challenges, while looking at innovative ways to deliver our business as usual offer (which is varied and wide ranging), working remotely as well as within our community.

The team offers a supportive environment and a great opportunity for further development.

About you

You may have previous experience of service delivery in health, housing support, social care, substance misuse or community services and / or experience of the contract management process either from a commissioning or provider background. Applications from people with experience in the Older Adults and Mental Health  sector would be particularly welcome.

You will be comfortable working across a range of portfolios and managing work both to deadlines and to a high level of consistency and detail.

You will place the needs and aspirations of the people of Islington at the centre of everything you do, ensuring that services are accessible, of the highest quality and represent value for money.

You’ll be comfortable working across professional, service and organisational boundaries to ensure a collaborative approach to achieving our ambitions.

About us

Islington Council is firmly committed to ensuring that public money is spent in ways that directly match public needs. Careful assessment of needs combined with effective partnership working allows us to provide outcome focused and cost-effective services.

We hold our commissioning service in high regard, recognising it as a key service which has an extremely positive impact on the quality of life enjoyed by Islington residents.

We commit to our staff and provide a wide range of learning and development opportunities as well as a supportive and collaborative working environment in which people can thrive. In return we simply ask that you share in our commitment to the residents of Islington.

For an informal discussion about the post, please email with contact details and a suitable time will be arranged

Working for the team, service and our organisation

Islington is a place rich with diversity and culture. As a council our sense of purpose couldn’t be clearer: we serve. It’s in the logo. We are committed to challenging inequality in the borough and as one of the largest employers we know that to look after the place and the planet, we have to look after our people. Together we can change the future.

We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive.

To do this, everyone who works at Islington Council lives by a set of values which guide us in everything that we do: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. They spell out ‘CARE’, which is what we think public service is all about.

Watch our video to hear more about our mission and how you can help us achieve it from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz.
