About The Role

The Black Adoption Project
The Black Adoption Project is a collaboration between four Adopt London Regional Adoption Agencies providing services for 24 London boroughs, and Laurelle Brown Training & Consultancy (LBTC). The Project is a long-term commitment intended to address persistent disparities for Black and mixed Black ethnicity children in the adoption system through research and analysis, piloting approaches to create change, evaluation, and dissemination. The Black Adoption Project works in close partnership with people who have lived experience of Black adoption, community stakeholders, Adopt London staff, and our 24 partner boroughs.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Black Adoption Project full time at a key juncture in our work and to make a real impact on reducing disparities in the lives of Black children and families. Reporting to the Steering Committee and senior leaders, you will be responsible for driving forward our ambitious agenda to undertake and evaluate a series of pilot projects as well as maintaining and developing key stakeholder and community relationships. You will support communication about the Black Adoption Project with a wide range of regional and national stakeholders, and ensure that all areas of work are undertaken in a way that is consistent with our project principles and theory of change.

You will be employed by the London Borough of Islington, based within Adopt London North but working on behalf of the four Adopt London Regional Adoption Agencies, and in close partnership with LBTC.

A substantial proportion of this work focuses on racism, marginalisation and discrimination and as such we welcome applications from those with personal experience of these issues, and who are typically underrepresented in senior leadership roles. This includes individuals that identify as Black, care experienced, LGBTQ+ and with caring responsibilities.

This post could be available as a secondment if you are permanently employed by one of the 24 Adopt London boroughs and your employer is in agreement. You will be asked to confirm your employer’s agreement prior to interview if you are shortlisted for the role. You can find a list of the 24 Adopt London boroughs here: https://adoptlondon.org.uk/about/

You will be informed of the shortlisting outcome by Friday 24th May. Interviews will consist of a prepared presentation to a stakeholder panel and an interview panel, which will both take place on Tuesday 4th June in Islington. You will be provided with more information about the interview process if your application is shortlisted.

Working for the team, service and our organisation

Islington is a place rich with diversity and culture. As a council our sense of purpose couldn’t be clearer: we serve. It’s in the logo. We are committed to challenging inequality in the borough and as one of the largest employers we know that to look after the place and the planet, we have to look after our people. Together we can change the future.

We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive.

To do this, everyone who works at Islington Council lives by a set of values which guide us in everything that we do: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. They spell out ‘CARE’, which is what we think public service is all about.

Watch our video to hear more about our mission and how you can help us achieve it from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz.
