Join us in our mission to create a more equal Islington where everyone has the chance to thrive. In this role, you'll be a key part of our Building Operations – Asbestos Team, helping us maintain the highest standards of safety and risk management across our properties.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Conducting asbestos surveys and inspections across a wide range of properties, including residential, schools, commercial, and industrial buildings
  • Undertaking detailed Management and Refurbishment/Demolition surveys, with appropriate risk assessments and bulk sampling
  • Producing comprehensive reports, including floor plans, within service deadlines
  • Providing clear advice and recommendations on asbestos management, risk assessments, and compliance with council policy
  • Overseeing asbestos removal and repair works, ensuring proper safety protocols and treatments are followed
  • Responding to emergency situations, organising air testing, and coordinating remedial works as needed
  • Maintaining and updating asbestos management systems and databases through our CAFM system
  • Assisting with the quality performance of external asbestos specialists through pre- and post-inspections
  • Offering expert support to clients and stakeholders, providing advice and ensuring excellent customer care standards

Skills and Experience We're Looking For:

  • Relevant experience in asbestos surveying, including management and refurbishment/demolition surveys
  • Strong understanding of asbestos management, risk assessments, and safety regulations
  • Ability to produce accurate, comprehensive reports and documentation
  • Knowledge of asbestos management systems and databases
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with clients and stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience in emergency response situations and managing asbestos removal processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining up-to-date skills in asbestos management

About Your Team: As an Asbestos Surveyor, you’ll be working within the Building Operations – Asbestos Team, reporting directly to the Senior Asbestos Surveyor. This team is at the heart of Islington Council’s efforts to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our residents. Your role will help deliver on our mission to create a more equal Islington, and you’ll work alongside a dedicated team committed to providing excellent service, safety, and compliance.
