Islington is one of the most exciting and dynamic parts of London and is experiencing rapid growth in housing and employment. To accommodate this growth and provide both existing and new residents and businesses with a high quality built environment, the Council is working with developers and partner organisations to deliver regeneration in Islington.

The Council's Economic Development, Projects and Transport Planning Service plays a key role in influencing development and delivering improvements in Islington. We are looking for a new colleague with an urban design, transport planning or planning related background to take on a varied and challenging work programme, including the transformation of some of Islington’s gyratory systems and design of new public spaces.

The successful candidate will be expected to have:

• a broad understanding of urban design and transport planning principles and issues;
• experience in the delivery of public space and transport projects and an understanding of project management techniques;
• an ability to provide expert advice to members, management and less experienced colleagues; and
• a qualification in urban design, transport planning, town planning, project management or a related discipline to degree level or equivalent with a proven track record of successful post-qualification practice.

You must have very good communication skills and be able to work creatively and constructively within a team, with other parts of the Council and partner organisations. A crucial part of this role will be your ability to work positively with stakeholders, the local community and elected members to deliver projects in line with the Council’s priorities.

Applicants are encouraged to contact Martijn Cooijmans on 020 7527 2776 before Friday 23 June 2017 for a confidential discussion about this role prior to applying.
