Parent Involvement Development Officer

Islington is proud to be an ‘early intervention’ borough and we have seen significant improvements in child and family outcomes in the early years. We believe that all children should begin their school lives in good health and able to do well at school. For this to happen, all families from pregnancy and with children aged under-five need access to services that work effectively together to provide the right help, at the right time and in the right places.

We have a strong network of 16 children’s centres working in partnership with health, employment and adult training services, schools, social services, libraries, childcare providers, community groups and many more.

Islington Children’s Services and Public Health are currently leading on a transformation of these services. The key aims are to bring together early childhood services through integration of staff teams, improving the quality and consistency of and access to services that help families to build resilience and reduce stressors. From September 2017, these services will sit under an umbrella early childhood model known as Bright Start Islington.

We recognise the power of parents talking to and supporting other parents, particularly those who do not readily engage with our services. To help us reach more families, we are seeking an excellent communicator with proven experience of supporting and motivating staff and parents. Their key role will be to work with Bright Start Islington staff to set up systems for parents to communicate with and support other parents to access and to help shape services.

The successful candidate will be expected to have:
• Experience of providing information and advice to a diverse range of parents
• Experience of establishing systems to involve parents in shaping services
• Experience of training adults
• Knowledge of the role of children’s centres and services
• Understanding of the impact of peer-led support
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work with professionals and practitioners
• Good ICT skills and knowledge of on-line communications
• Understanding of the needs of different people from different backgrounds.

The role will require an Enhanced satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) formally known as the Criminal Records (CRB) Disclosure.

Applicants are encouraged to contact Jane Wright on 020 7527 5560 before the closing date for a confidential discussion about this role prior to applying.

Closing date: Sunday 2 July 2017 at 23:59.
Interview date: Friday 14 July 2017
