Specialist Family Support Practitioner

Do you enjoy working with families and want to make a difference? Do you want to join a service that is increasing the level and effectiveness of direct work with families in social work and family support in a specialist capacity? Does this sound like you?

Islington have listened to children and families, social workers and other professionals to develop a vision for change. As a response to this, Islington established an intensive multi-agency service to enhance interventions with families by delivering an evidence based, flexible and responsive specialist family support service as well as producing high quality assessments of parenting capacity and motivation to change. The service contributes to the delivery of high quality multi-agency intensive intervention packages to the most complex families in Islington within their own homes and in the community

This service is for a small number of families where the risks to children are high and needs are so complex that there is a likelihood of the children being placed into care if significant improvement is not achieved. Through the multi-agency resource and parenting expertise in our Specialist Family Support Team, statutory social workers will be able to fully utilise an intensive support package for the families that they are working with in order to enhance their social work intervention and assessment.

Over the last 10 years, Islington already developed two highly regarded and successful multi-agency teams with staff from Social Care, Children’s and Adults Mental Health, and Education. These established teams, AMASS and IFIT, have a significant local evidence base of positive outcomes for families, and developing best practice models and skills development in the workforce.

Islington Children’s Social Care is looking to recruit a Specialist Family Support Practitioner to work to join SFST.

The post holder will be primarily based within the Enhanced Service at 222 Upper Street, N11XR.

The Specialist Family Support Practitioners have a key role within the new service, with core functions including evidence-based parenting interventions, practical and emotional support to parents, carers, children and families with the overall aim of maintaining children within their family networks. They co –ordinate and deliver high quality bespoke parenting-intervention packages to the most complex families in Islington within their own homes and in the community.
