Specialist Family Support Worker

 

The New Positive Behaviour Service

This is your chance to join this new and exciting Positive Behaviour Service, which is part of Islington’s Disabled Children’s Family Support Team. You will be working as part of a group of specialist, professionals supporting disabled children and their families to make the changes that will make a positive difference to their lives.

The Specialist Family Support Worker Role

You will be working directly with some of the most complex and challenging disabled young people in the borough before and after school, some weekends and during school holidays. You will have the opportunity to contribute your ideas and insights gained through your direct work with individual children with the team around the child. The Specialist Family Support Worker posts will interest people who enjoy direct work with disabled children and have the ability to understand non-verbal communication, manage challenging behaviour positively and meet their care needs.

What We Are Looking For….

You will need to have significant experience of direct work with children, preferably with disabilities, challenging behaviour and an understanding of autism spectrum condition. You will need to be able to communicate and engage effectively with the child using a range of techniques, working with the family and the professional network towards shared goals. You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic, resilient, caring, understanding and child-centred.

You will be lone working at times in the family homes and in the community, which will require the ability to dynamically risk assess situations and use your initiative. You need to be well organised and able to provide structured support, intensive interaction, positive activities and developmental opportunities which build on children’s strengths.
